Church grants special indulgence to coronavirus patients and caregivers...

On March 20, the Apostolic Penitentiary issued a decree granting plenary indulgences to “the faithful suffering from the Covid-19 virus, commonly known as coronavirus, as well as to healthcare workers, family members and all those who in any capacity, including through prayer, care for them.”

The note explained that the diocesan bishop has complete discretion over the administration of collective absolution except where there is an “imminent danger of death” or a “grave necessity.” Individual confession remains the ordinary way of celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Lent 2020, Ash Wednesday (Feb 26) - Good Friday (Apr 10)

Our Lenten Observance

Ash Wednesday, February 26th, marks the beginning of the Lenten Season, a special time to reflect on and nurture our personal relationship with God. Masses with distribution of ashes to follow will be at 7 a.m. in English, 12:15 pm Bilingual and 6:00 p.m. English.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.

The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. If possible the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.
