Prayer to St. Cecilia
Saint Cecilia, heroic martyr who stayed faithful to Jesus your divine bridegroom, pray for me that I might have faith like yours. By your example and valor help me to forgive my enemies or anyone who persecutes others. I know that you were a musician and that you heard angels sing. Inspire musicians to gladden the hearts of people by filling the air with God's gift of music and reminding them of the Divine Musician Who created all beauty.
Amen.

About St. Cecilia

According to tradition, Cecilia was a young Christian woman of high rank who was betrothed to a Roman official named Valerian. Through her influence Valerian was converted to Christianity and was martyred because of his faith, along with his brother. She died a virgin who was tortured for her Christian faith and she is remembered as a remarkable Christian woman whose love for God was exemplary. The description of Cecilia’s death says that after being struck three times on the neck with a sword, she lived for three days. While still alive she asked the pope to convert her home into a church.

Since the time of the Renaissance she has usually been portrayed with a viola or a small organ.
